## New York Liberty Grateful, Sympathetic In Ironic Final Run ### Background With two games remaining in their lifespan, the New York Liberty are cherishing every moment as they prepare for the franchise's relocation to Dallas. On Sunday, the Liberty (12-20) will host the Chicago Sky at Barclays Center in Brooklyn before concluding their season Tuesday against the Atlanta Dream in Elmont, New York. ### Expressing Gratitude and Sympathy “[Sunday] is going to be a celebration of our journey and our history here in New York,” Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu said. “It’s been a whirlwind. We’ve had a lot of ups and downs over the past couple of years. We’ve been really resilient and we’ve stuck together. I think we’re all proud of the progress we’ve made and the foundation we’ve built.” Ionescu added: “I think the biggest takeaway is the support that we’ve gotten from the fans. They’ve been amazing. They’ve stuck by our side through thick and thin. We really appreciate their support and we’re going to miss them a lot.” ### Looking Ahead After 25 seasons in the New York metropolitan area, the Liberty are moving to Dallas after the 2022 season. The move was announced in January and has been met with mixed reactions from fans. “It’s bittersweet,” Ionescu said. “We’re excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead, but we’re also going to miss New York. It’s been our home for so long. We’ve made so many great memories here. It’s going to be tough to say goodbye.” However, Ionescu is confident that the Liberty will continue to succeed in Dallas. “We have a great group of players and a great coaching staff,” Ionescu said. “We’re excited about the future and we’re ready to take the next step.”
