August 6, 2024

Dancehall music icons Bounty Killer and Beenie Man will be bestowed with Jamaica's sixth-highest national honor, the Order of Distinction (OD) in the rank of Officer.

The announcement was made by Prime Minister Andrew Holness at a post-Cabinet press briefing on August 5, 2024. Four other veteran artistes will also be inducted into the Order of Distinction.

" these individuals have made significant contributions to Jamaica's cultural landscape and have represented our country with pride and distinction on the international stage," Holness said.

Bounty Killer, born Rodney Price, and Beenie Man, born Moses Davis, have been pioneers in the dancehall genre for over three decades. They have both released numerous hit songs and albums, winning numerous awards and accolades.

The induction ceremony will take place at King's House on National Heroes Day, October 15, 2024. The Order of Distinction was established in 1969 to recognize outstanding achievements in various fields, including the arts, sciences, and public service.

Other honorees include government ministers Edmund Bartlett and Horace Chang, as well as entertainers Rodney "Bounty Killer" Price and Moses "Beenie Man" Davis.
