Increased Maximum Forgiveness Amount

In addition to expanding eligibility, the maximum amount of forgivable student loans has been increased by 50%. Eligible family doctors can now receive up to $60,000 in loan forgiveness, while residents in family medicine and nurse practitioners are eligible for lesser amounts.

Timeline for Application

* Students in study: Apply anytime * Students in repayment: Apply within 6 months of graduating or leaving school * Students in non-repayment period: Apply within 6 months of entering non-repayment

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for Canada Student Loan forgiveness, applicants must meet the following requirements: * Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident * Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN) * Be a practicing family doctor, resident in family medicine, or nurse practitioner in Canada * Have outstanding Canada Student Loans

Application Process

Eligible individuals can apply for loan forgiveness through the National Student Loans Service Centre (NSLSC) website. The application requires documentation such as proof of identity, proof of income, and confirmation of employment in the healthcare field.
